Tuesday October 9th 2018, NY Times Crossword
Time: 8:04
Tuesday Average: 13:51
Best Tuesday: 6:10
After flying from Karachi to Bangkok, basically having one of those nights that you just fly out of existence, I solved this Tuesday over juice and Chinese buffet in the lounge. Although I was bit out of my head, this one (apparently constructed by a Crossword class!) went down fairly easily, although the theme took me a moment. Of course, the excellent film HIDDEN FIGURES also makes a strong crossword theme revealer and, sure, enough "Prism," "Cube," and "Sphere" are all hidden in the long acrosses of E PLURIBUS UNUM, SECURITY BLANKET, and NO SURPRISE THERE. Of course, I suppose they're not so well hidden because the circles reveal them.
Seeing Joe TORRE appear in the crossword reminded me that I better check the Red Sox scores and saw that they were already up 10-0 in the 4th. Strangely, crosswords have mostly replaced the Red Sox in terms of my obsession right when the Sox are having one of the best seasons they've ever had (we'll see how the rest of the playoffs go). These days, instead of watching every Red Sox game and then reading three recaps, I do at least two crosswords, read two recaps, and then I freaking blog about it. I actually write my blog before reading other recaps, obviously, so I don't get unduly influenced. I still may not be simply a CASUAL Red Sox fan, but maybe I've been downgraded from rabid. Definite crossword GEEK though.
NONPLUS is one of my favorite words because I think most people believe that it means its opposite, because it certainly sounds like it would mean something "unimpressed," but instead it means "confused to the point of being unsure how to react." There's a great line in Archer about it.
So that's how you spell DEALIO as in what's the "dealio?" I SEE.
CHEERIO!

I wont tell the RedSox that you are no longer a rabid fan or they might just give up - though last night was a good one wasnt it, let’s hope for a few more. I’m glad you at least check the scores!
